A recent graduate of syndenham college, Sanaya was eager to pursue an mba degree but her mother had other plans. her mother told her to take a year off and do ads and modeling. she spoke to photographer-turned actor Boman Irani - a good friend of the family- to do Sanaya's portfolio and he agreed. Sanaya spoke of her experience, "My mom told Boman Irani to click my photos. But I was really shy and scared. Boman told me that the day I feel confident, I should give him a call. Finally, after a lot of pestering by my mom, I called up Boman. But when I met the camera for the first time, I was super nervous. Boman tried to make me feel comfortable by cracking jokes and playing his guitar, but I was very stiff and scared." After her first portfolio shoot, Sanaya spent four years doing ads and music videos. "I never thought I would act on television, yet I knew I would do movies if somebody offered me anything." Sanaya did commercials with Bollywood superstars.: Lee (with Saif Ali Khan), Belmonte (with Shahrukh Khan), Dabur Honey (with Amitabh Bachchan), Lux (with Priyanka Chopra) and Pepsi (with Kareena Kapoor). But when Sanaya got fed up of commercials and no one was offering her a good film, Sanaya decided to venture into the world of television. However, she received the offer for fanaa soon after.
